Oldham Athletic Reserves 2 Burnley Reserves 2

PAUL Smith and defender Peter Swan both made welcome returns from injury with Burnley reserves at Oldham last night.

Swan marshalled the Clarets back line for 45 minutes, while Smith was given an hour.

The Clarets dominated the first period and took the lead on 14 minutes when a Smith corner was headed goal-bound by Ronnie Jepson and Tom Cowan was on hand to make certain the ball crossed the line.

Jepson who dominated the midfield all night, added a second for the Clarets a minute before the break when Walsh handled in the area after a scramble.

Jepson took the penalty, firing low to the keeper's left.

Oldham fought back in the second period and a double substitution on 63 minutes changed the course of the game. Glen Roberts pulled a goal back on 74 minutes when the substitute latched on to a Wharton through ball before outpacing Robertson to fire under the advancing Mawson.

Oldham pressed after the goal and after fine link play in midfield, Matthew Tipton played in Sugden on the right and the second substitute took his chance well, firing low across Mawson into the far corner of the net.

Team: Mawson, Robertson, Cowan, Brass, Swan (Scott 45mins), Johnrose, Weller, Jepson, Lee, Shandran, Smith (Devenney 66mins).
