BLACKBURN Colts manager Lyle Wilson was very pleased with his side's performance against Cheshire opposition Halton which significantly raised team morale.

Lyle said "I was impressed by the way the whole team played with strong forward play working as a unit - our forwards really went for it in the second half with superb handling by our midfield players who made ground at every breakdown".

Halton led Blackburn in the first half with a converted try 7-5, however in the second the Blackburn squad had 80 per cent of possession with forwards and backs playing superb controlled rugby.

Ben Fox (wing) scored a superb try with the sheer pace that has justified his recent outings with Lancashire Colts and captain, Luke Johnson Smith (fly half) also scored as a result of good forward play.

The Colts training sessions are on Tuesday evening at the club, 7pm, and all new players aged 16-19 are very welcome.

Next fixture v Rossendale at home on Sunday (kick-off 11am).

BLACKBURN Under-Nines v

ORMSKIRK Under-Nines

ORMSKIRK were lacking a few key players and this showed in the eventual result.

However, their team played with a lot of character in a largely one-sided game which was convincingly won by Blackburn. Man of the match was Mark Lake and several new players also made excellent contributions.

The next training session is on Sunday at 10.30pm.

BLACKBURN Under-7's and 8's v

ORMSKIRK Under-7's and 8's BLACKBURN had another good turnout of players that was enough for two games. Coach Gary McAnn said: "I was pleased with the development of team play and possession of the ball was good".

Man of the match was shared by Benjamin Yates (2 tries) and Carl Smith for good defending, other try scorers were Ben Bridson (3), Luke Mc Varish (1), Max Nelson (1) , Samuel Carter (1) and Jessica Mgurty.

BLACKBURN Under-10's v

ORMSKIRK Under-10's

COACH Greg Nyhan said: "My team put in an excellent performance against a very good Ormskirk side but were pipped at the post".

Ormskirk opened up their account by creating space only after resilient tackling by the Blackburn defence.

This pattern was followed for most of the first half with Ormskirk showing excellent attacking skills.

The Under-10's showed great resolve in defence and thre man of the match was awarded to T Woodward who made a tackle on the line driving his attacker back.

Calvin Ferguson also deserves special mention scoring and excellent individual try as does John Coar and Scott Riley.
