SUPERSTARS Ike and Tina Turner played one of East Lancashire's most memorable gigs when they performed at the Imperial Ballroom, Nelson, in April 1968. The duo had stormed the charts with River Deep, Mountain High.

Their marriage later turned sour and Tina claimed Ike was a womanising wife-beater. Tina went on to world superstardom while Ike - who denied his ex-wife's claims - spent time in jail for drugs offences. Ike eventually bounced back and 30 years later played the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne.
