A MAN found dead on the railway line near Hapton yesterday was later identified as 49-year-old David Howarth.
Mr Howarth, believed to be of Palmerston Street, Padiham, was seen by a train driver shortly before 10am yesterday.
A British Transport Police spokesman said he had suffered injuries consistent with having been struck by a train.
Police and ambulance officers attended the scene about 300 yards on the Huncoat side of Hapton.
The spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances.
He could not say when Mr Howarth had died as inquiries were still taking place and they did not yet know the full details.
A report will be sent to the East Lancashire Coroner David Smith.
