I FEEL dismayed at the possibility that the Lancashire Fusiliers museum may be lost to our town, a feeling shared by many others.

Although I was unable to serve in the forces due to ill-health, I am still very proud of Bury's connections with the Lancashire Fusiliers. I am sure the people of Bury will raise enough funds to secure the museum's future.

I was brought up close to Wellington Barracks and remember well the troops being trained there during the war. The search-lights being trained on enemy aircraft, the sound of a bugle call for reveille, and the Last Post are all memories from my past.

My grandfather was in the Lancashire Fusiliers in the First World War, and was killed at Mons. My grandma died when my mother was only 14 and she then had a brother and sister to bring up, and later me.

My son, I am proud to say, is in the army, in REME, and my daughter works in the nursing profession. Please let us keep our museum, and have it in the Drill Hall where I would also like to see artifacts from the Castle dig, a project which I helped on.
