LEYLAND'S MP has launched a campaign to make sure all pensioners claim the new cash due to them from April.

David Borrow MP wants to make sure that all single pensioners receive their £3 a week rise and all couples take advantage of their £5 a week rise in the minimum income guarantee.

Speaking as Labour launched a national campaign to tackle pensioner poverty and improve their take-up of benefits, Mr Borrow said: "We want to help all pensioners, while giving extra assistance to those most in need.

"There are a number of pensioners in South Ribble eligible for the new minimum income guarantee, but not claiming the extra cash they are entitled to."

With a winter fuel allowance of £100 for pensioner households and the free television licenses for those aged 75 and over from Autumn, the poorest pensioners could get nearly £15 per week more or £20 for a couple.
