HUNDREDS of new jobs are to be created as part of a £2 million investment in Blackpool's hi-tech business park.

Developments now confirmed on the 20-acre site in Bispham are expected to bring 250 jobs to the region.

Council bosses are said to be delighted at this jobs boost for the area, saying it highlights Blackpool as a centre for the new boom in technology-based business.

The technology park, on Faraday Way, is to become the site for a second Technology Management Centre - TMC2. The first TMC on the Bispham site has been a massive success, attracting investment and providing a base for 17 companies employing more than 150 people.

Offering a range of services from computing facilities through to management training and advice, the new centre will provide more of the same. TMC2 will be fitted with state of the art equipment offering access to multi-media telecommunications technology.

A video conferencing system will also be fitted, offering modern business services at a fraction of the cost.

Two new office buildings are also planned for the site creating a further 100 jobs.

Although the developers' names are still under wraps it is believed that the two 10,000 sq ft sites will accomodate around five businesses .

Council leader Ivan Taylor is delighted with the big cash injection for the town.

"The new technology park is the perfect setting for state-of-the-art businesses to move to, or launch into the cutting edge world of commerce.

"This is a major jobs boost to Blackpool and shows the resort's attraction as a booming venue for hi-tech firms."

Building work is expected to begin in April.
