A MORECAMBE man who admitted carrying out three rapes, has been jailed for eight years.

Alan Hogg, 46, was told by a Preston Crown Court judge that his name would be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

Hogg, formerly of Albert Road, Morecambe, will be under supervision for four years on his release from prison.

He had a previous conviction of raping a girl under 16 dating back more than 15 years.

He tried to kill himself when he was first accused of raping the teenage girl. Hogg took two overdoses after being confronted with allegations.

Defence barrister Patrick Thompson said Hogg felt a great deal of shame, contrition and remorse.

He accepted that his behaviour had been totally unacceptable.

Passing sentence, Judge Brian Duckworth said the offences had been appalling.
