RAMSBOTTOM boss Ken Bridge celebrated his March manager-of-the-month award in style as David Yorke Robinson and Danny Goodall each bagged a brace in United's best win of the season.

With Abbey Hey reduced to 10 men just before half-time --when Dave Starkie was sent off for kicking Jamie Ramplin -- Bridge's men ran in five goals after the break to make it a rout.

And the three points have moved the Rams up into fourth place in the FNWTL First Division -- a tremendous achievement for a side who started off the season badly, with five defeats.

The home side went in front after 16 minutes when Yorke-Robinson found striker Russell Brierley who rounded his marker to crash an 18-yard shot past Abbey keeper Colin Bradbury.

It wasn't all one-way traffic as Ramsbottom lost their early momentum and keeper Mike Kelly had to produce a fine block to deny Tim Bailey. But after Starkie received his marching orders, United increased their lead as Yorke-Robinson hammered home an unstoppable shot to give the Rams a comfortable half-time lead.

The hosts then raised their game after the break and the pressure told 12 minutes after the re-start when Goodall flicked on Mike Langhorn's corner for Yorke-Robinson to apply the finishing touch from close range.

Abbey had a chance to pull a goal back when they were awarded a penalty but Kelly dived to his right to keep out Pickford's spot kick.

And Ramsbottom went 4-0 up when a Brierley effort cannoned back out to Ramplin who found the back of the empty net from 25 yards.

Langhorn then got in on the act when he lashed home a shot from outside the box via the under-side of the bar before Goodall weighed in with his late double.

He hit the target after 77 minutes and then again two minutes later with a terrific half-volley that hit the back of the net before anyone could move to round things off in impressive fashion.
