HERE we go again -- somebody has had a bright idea to make this government millions of pounds in extra revenue by targeting caravans to be taxed.

Well, Mrs Kathleen Bulcock (Letters, April 6) I own a caravan and I object to giving this government any more of my hard-earned cash for what is basically a leisure activity.

Most people seem to think that caravanning is a cheap way of having a holiday. Let me dispel that myth -- it isn't.

Here's what it costs me: Car, £5,000; car tax, £170; car insurance, £300; caravan, £9,000; caravan insurance, £250; yearly service, £120; yearly storage, £150; site fees, £10/£15 a night; not to mention the extra fuel I use when towing my van.

I have a British car and British caravan and when I'm away in my caravan I help to support local economies by spending my British case in Britain.

Here's an idea for you, Mrs Bulcock -- why doesn't the government put an extra tax on people who go abroad for their holidays every year?

Now, that would make the government some revenue.
