RESIDENTS have put their views forward on how to cut youth crime in part of Blackburn.

People in the Greater Whitebirk area took part in a community survey as part of environmental regeneration charity Groundwork's Youth Works initiative.

The survey focused on areas of local concern, such as the environment, crime and safety, transport, leisure and recreation.

The results -- to be revealed at the end of May -- will be used as the basis for an action plan in the area.

Youth Works aims to fight youth crime by getting young people involved in their communities. The Greater Whitebirk Youth Works project has funding of £250,000 over three years from the Youth Justice Board.

Project manager Graeme Neale said: "Our objective is to reduce the levels of crime and nuisance behaviour currently attributed to young people.

"Taking account of what local people feel is important will help prioritise our work over the next three years."

The survey was carried out in conjunction with the Whitebirk, Audley and Intack Crime and Disorder Group.

The group includes members of various council departments, the police, Victim Support, Neighbourhood Watch schemes, churches and tenants.
