PRESTON and Leyland's Cricket teams are propping up the bottom of the Bay 96.9 Northern Cricket League table following a disastrous start to the season.

Leyland, Leyland DAF and Preston are occupying three of the bottom four places in Division One following some poor results and dreadful weather.

Over the weekend, Leyland DAF's match at Kendal was abandoned for rain with the home side on 141-4. The sides shared four points.

But DAF fared far worse on Bank Holiday Monday when they were bowled out by an in form Blackpool for a miserable 41.

Singh was the pick of Blackpool's bowlers taking an astonishing 6-13 while fellow bowler Sharp took 4-20. Preston notched 158-7, thanks mainly to a stand of 65 by Bavla, at home to Leyland.

The visitors managed 80-7 with Rimmer on 54 not out and Preston were awarded a winning draw.

But both sides were defeated two days later. Leyland went to Chorley and bowled out the home side for 95, before collapsing themselves to notch just 88.

And Preston fared no better despite scoring a respectable 145 against Kendal. Veenstra scored 61 in the chase to help the visitors to a six-wicket win.

In Division Two, Blackpool's Bartholemew took 3-8 to help reduce Leyland DAF to 46 all out. Blackpool hardly broke a sweat in reply with Caunce scoring 30 to win by 50-0.

But DAF bounced back two days later and bowled Kendal out for 84 before cruising to 85-3 to take the points.

Kendal also fared badly against Preston with just 71 on the scoreboard when the last wicket fell. Farrington scored 21 not out on the way to a 72-2 victory.

Neighbours Leyland were amazed to see Chorley declare on 215-2 before collapsing and scoring just 71 in reply.

And, rather bizarrely, the Leyland Preston derby match was postponed for a bikers' festival at the Fox Lane ground on Bank Holiday Monday.
