A BRAVE fighting come back, with goals from Martin Dixon and Chris Dunlop, gave Rainford North End Reserves a commendable 2-2 home draw against Hardshaw Argyle in last weeks mid-week games and also ruined the Argyles chances of clinching the St Helens Combination's Division Three Championship.

College St Helens swamped a depleted Rainford outfit 9-1 at Rainford on Saturday to celebrate their championship success. Eddie Furlong scored four times and others coming from Jamie Stevens (2), Lee Holmes, Twomey, Woodcroft and Dyke.

On a beautiful Bank Holiday Monday morning, Carr Mill FC, retained the D H Griffiths Cup by outscoring Division One Sidac Social. Sidac, although playing good approach stuff just could not carve out any scoring chances.

On the other hand, Carr Mill put away their chances with fine style. Steve Dearden rattled home a 19-yard free kick, then this was followed with a quick bit of thinking by experienced Tony Costello who was quick to read a back pass to the keeper. Gary Ball showed his prowess when his slick, quick thinking allowed him to beat the opposition and square a great pass which young Paul Critchley eagerly accepted for number three.

Twenty minutes into the second period Tony Costello, again, was on the spot to lob into an empty goal following Gary Ball's persistence to upset the positioning of the Sidac keeper. President Bert Rawsthorne again presented the cup and trophies.

All clubs are reminded that there will be a league meeting at Greenalls Alder Hey Road venue on Monday May 15 at 7.30pm.
