RESIDENTS, council officials and police have formed a united front to fence off crime.

The Designing Out Crime in Newton campaign has already seen improved street and security lighting, security fencing and other environmental improvements on the Fairbrothers, Common Road and Brunswick Road estates.

Now, thanks to regular meetings between St Helens Council and members of the local Tenants and Residents Association, new high level timber fencing has been installed at Tully Avenue on the Common Road estate. Previously, the old fencing was dilapidated and too low to offer any security from thieves.

This latest scheme is the sixth to benefit local residents and others currently under consultation include fencing and lighting improvements along the length of the footpath between the back of homes on the Common Road estate and Dingle open space area.
