A FATHER-of-two bit an officer's hand after police turned up at his house, following a call for help from his wife.

Burnley magistrates heard how Peter Clive Graham, 30, had become aggressive when two officers woke him from his sleep after he had locked his house up and taken the keys with him.

Graham, of Airdrie Crescent, Burnley, was conditionally discharged for 12 months, with £60 costs and he mustd pay compensation of £50. He admitted resisting a police constable and an allegation of police assault was dismissed.

The court heard the defendant's wife had contacted the police 'in a state,' asking for help.

She said they had both been out drinking, he had become violent, locked the doors, taken the keys and gone to bed.

Officers had to break into the property and found Graham upstairs in bed. When he was awoken, he became aggressive. He was arrested, handcuffed and bit an officer on the hand, causing slight bruising. He was eventually put in the police van and taken to Burnley police station.

Nick Dearing, defending, said Graham did not normally drink, but he and his wife had gone to a party and he had very little recollection of the evening.

Both the defendant and his wife had since given up drinking, which obviously didn't mix with either of them.

They were reconciled within 24 hours and wanted to put it behind them.
