YOUNG dancers from Darwen have been stopped in their tracks by the breakdown of their double-decker bus.

The Darwen Morris Dancers are now appealing for help in raising £2,000 to repair the bus, which they bought just 12 months ago.

The talented girls are devastated that their bus, which transports them to competitions all over the country, has suffered a series of mechanical failures and now needs a new engine. It broke down completely two weeks ago as they travelled to a competition in Southport.

They have launched a fund-raising appeal to help get themselves back on the road.

Secretary Sandra Jackson said: "We are really struggling at the moment. A reconditioned replacement engine is going to cost at least £2,000 and we also need to find the money to train a new driver.

"The bus broke down completely when we were on our way to Southport two weeks ago and now we have no choice but to hire transport. We need help to keep costs down, otherwise some of the girls won't be able to afford to carry on dancing."

Darwen Morris Dancers have about 80 members aged between three and 43.

They travel across the country taking part in competitions and also stage their own.

They bought the second-hand bus a year ago with help from the Lloyd Trust.

Businesses and organisations who would like to help are asked to contact Sandra on 01254 771967.
