THE story that, to save money, sailors training at the Royal Navy's gunnery school have to shout "Bang!" instead of using live shells must make our military heroes of the past turn in their graves.
It is false security. The safety of our country may rely upon these men having their skills in realistic conditions.
Money can be found, but all too often it is handed out for frivolous causes. Cash from the Lottery could end this almost-comical farce.
But, alas, ventures like the Millennium Dome, which is failing, are to many the be-all and end-all, so they have given it a further £29million -- on top of the £500-plus million it cost to build -- just to keep it ticking over.
Many government ministers have lost sight of reality. How do we know? Just ask the pensioner who has just been awarded a grand increase in his weekly income of 75p.
