LIFE in a Lancashire mill before the war was re-enacted for visitors at Queen Street Mill, Harle Syke.
Social history from the 1930s was brought alive by four actors who wove a tale of toil and romance. It was a story with which some of the older visitors could identify as they recalled the days when Lancashire had many such working mills.
Rita Shaw, the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's Newspapers in Education co-ordinator took the part of weaver Elsie Stubbs, Colette Pedder, of Bacup, was Janey Sellers, a war widow with two children, who was taught to weave by Elsie. Jeff Moore from Rochdale was Bertie Clegg, a tackler and something of a "Jack the lad" and historian Sandy Roydes of Middleton was Henry Braithwaite.
The actors will be at Oswaldtwistle Mills next Sunday and back at Queen Street on August 27 and September 9.
