POLICE have launched a fresh appeal as they step up their hunt to find the perpetrator of a slasher attack on a young woman.
Two women on a night out in Accrington were attacked. A 19-year-old received lacerations to the face and chest after allegedly having a pint glass smashed at her.
Her friend, a 20-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, is believed to have been hit over the head with a bottle. The smashed end of the bottle was then dragged down the woman's back, leaving a 12-inch slash and causing severe muscle damage.
A woman has been arrested and charged with the attack on the 19-year-old, but police have yet to find the person responsible for the "vicious" slasher attack -- despite a pledge from the victim's father to pay a reward if someone is convicted.
Police say they have had an excellent response from witnesses to the attack, which occurred in the packed Churchill's bar, in Cannon Street, Accrington on Sunday, April 30.
DS Mark Rothwell from Accrington CID said: "We have had a lot of good information from people who have either called us or written to us but people haven't given us any way of contacting them.
"Some people rang us anonymously while others wrote in but signed their letters 'disgusted.'
"While we will treat all calls in the strictest confidence, we need some way of contacting these people because we believe they are vital witnesses who may be able to identify the perpetrator of a very vicious attacker."
The victim's father, who has requested that both his name and his daughter's name are not revealed, said: "We are prepared to pay money for information which leads to a conviction. This was a horrible thing to happen to my daughter, who was just enjoying a night out."
Anyone with any information can call CID on 01254 382141.
