THERE were contrasting results on bank holiday Saturday for our three local teams.

The best performance came Leyland who beat league leaders Blackpool at Fox Lane by two wickets.

There was a pulsating finish when Leyland captain Brian Tennant took a single off the last ball of the match to secure victory.

Tennant and 18-year-old Craig Dootson had an unbroken ninth wicket partnership of 35 runs -- the former was undefeated with 28, and the latter, six.

And Tennant was named man of the match as he also took 6-59 to help dismiss Blackpool for 159.

Preston and Leyland DAF fared far worse, suffering heavy defeats.

Preston lost by eight wickets to Fleetwood at Broadwater.

The visitors were dismissed for 95 with only Tony Hesketh with 30 and Asif Bukhari with 29 offering any real resistance.

In reply, Fleetwood were 98-2 with opener John Wright carrying his bat for 42.

Leyland DAF came back pointless from their trip to Cumbria to play Netherfield.

DAF made 117-7 with Ben Henderson top-scoring on 32.

Netherfield raced to victory with the loss of just one wicket and Craig Walmsley notched 56 while partner Tommy Prime made 47.
