MARK Robertson is planning to speak to manager Stan Ternent about his prospects for next season before agreeing a new contract with the Clarets.

Robertson, currently on loan with Australian club Wollongong Wolves, has been given the chance to stay on at Turf Moor after being offered an extension to his current deal which expires next month.

But having failed to start a League game as Burnley clinched promotion last season, the midfield man is keen to assess his chances of senior action in Division One.

"I was thrilled that he offered me a new contract which shows that he does want me and thinks that I can play at that level. That's good but I just want to start playing," said Robertson.

"It's not a question of money, just a case of knowing if I'm going to be involved and part of his plans.

"I need to see where I stand in the gaffer's plans. If we're both up front I will know where I stand and he will know what he's getting from me. That would be good for both parties and we need to have a chat."

Robertson is clearly seen as having a bright future by Ternent, who values his ability to play in a number of different positions. In that respect and given the fact that he is still a developing talent, the 23-year-old would be a highly useful player to have at Turf Moor again next season.

But at this stage of his career the former Sydney Marconi midfielder, an outside bet for a place in the Australian squad for the Olympics in October, wants to know that he will be in with a realistic chance of first-team football before committing himself.

"I really want to do something with my football and hopefully it will pan out the way I want it to," added Robertson, who will also be looking for a measure of security given that he is due to become a father for the first time at the end of the summer.

First though, Robertson faces a pressing date this weekend when he hopes to return to action for Wollongong in their play-off game against Carleton.

The Burnley man missed last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Perth Glory because of a groin injury, a result which means that Glory go through to Australia's Grand Final where they will meet either Wollongong or Carleton in Perth next weekend.

Meanwhile, Ternent has confirmed that Burnley have received no approaches for Clarets winger Glen Little, who has been the subject of transfer speculation linking him with Aston Villa and Bradford City.
