A FORTNIGHT of celebrations to mark South Asian culture is set to take place in Blackburn and Darwen as part of the borough's millennium celebrations.

Three voluntary community groups -- the Kashmiri Association, the festivals committee and the QAAF Centre -- have organised the events which begin on Friday, July 21, with a battle of the bands.

Other events planned for the fortnight include a puppet show, a poetry festival, sports tournaments and a family Mela.

A series of curry days will also take place.
