"THE Newspapers in Education resource is a brilliant activity and a bit challenging. It also keeps you up to date with what's going on in the world".

This enthusiastic comment from a pupil sums up the reaction to our Pick and Mix material from a Pendle school.

"I really love the sports section," said another, "using the material helps to make learning such fun that I would like to do it all over again".

Kelbrook County Primary School, near Colne, is the latest to team up with our project, using our Pick and Mix resource along with a class delivery of our newspaper to boost literacy and numeracy skills. And children kindly took time to send us their views on the project.

All pupils in years 5 and 6 at the school are working through tasks from the NIE resource activity sheets during their literacy and numeracy hours and, according to teacher Janet Whipp, are finding it a pleasant change from SATs tests. "The variety of ideas in the pack is especially useful, making it very good value and suitable for pupils with a wide range of age and ability.

"The children are working well and are really enjoying the project. In fact we will continue to use the material after half term", she said.

Pick and Mix is just one of our current range of newspaper linked educational resources on offer to schools, colleges and youth groups within our circulation area.

And at a price of only £10 for the minimum order of 25 copies of the activity pack and delivery of the same number of up-to-date copies of our newspaper on any day of the week, it must be one of the best educational bargains around.
