POLL tax protester Coun Chris Nightingale decided to pay some of his community charge bill -- using a cheque written out on a sponge cake.
But his £63 payment was rejected by Hyndburn Council because they could not process it. Council finance director Brian Lythgoe said: "A cake is not necessarily legal tender."
