KEVIN YOUNG is the new editor of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Mr Young (pictured), who is married to Heather with two children Grace, nine, and Eve, six, will take up his position on Monday, June 5.

Deputy editor of the Telegraph and Argus in Bradford, Mr Young began his career as a reporter at the Luton News.

From there he joined the Coventry Evening Telegraph where he became industry correspondent before being promoted to sub-editor.

Mr Young, 45, then moved to the Express and Star in Wolverhampton where he was page one splash sub.

Originally from County Durham but with relatives across East Lancashire, Mr Young then moved to the Gloucestershire Echo as assistant editor. Among his achievements at the Telegraph and Argus, a sister newspaper of the Evening Telegraph, Mr Young was responsible for co-ordinating a campaign which led the paper to be named Community Newspaper of the Year in recent Newspaper Society Awards. Mr Young said: "I'm following an extremely well respected editor in Peter Butterfield who has left a big mark on the newspaper and the community.

"I will try to live up to that tradition.

"Obviously I want to build on the community feel of the newspaper and I hope to provide an informative, interesting and hopefully exciting read.

"More to the point, we all at the Evening Telegraph need to try to produce a newspaper that the readers want."

Managing director of the Evening Telegraph Brenda Rudge added: "I am sure Kevin will have a significant impact on the newspaper and take it on to new heights.

"He is very experienced and I am confident he will have the full support of the staff and people of East Lancashire.

"He has lots of plans for the paper, which he knows quite well as he has family who live in the area.

"I am looking forward to welcoming him as part of the senior management team and working with him."
