BEWILDERED Frenchwood residents now have to chip away at layers of tarmac every time there's a burst water pipe -- because a council worker has laid the stuff over their stopcocks!
Preston council workers made the blunder when they completed repairs to back alleys in Coronation Crescent, Roman Road and Bence Road.
Selborne Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Pauline Sharples said: "I just can't believe that someone could be so stupid. As soon as we complained to the council, the same things was done in another alley!"
She added: "The council has told us we have to accept this and chip away at the tarmac every time we need to get to the stopcocks. Local residents are very upset."
