DISABLED pupils in Lancashire will benefit from more than £630,000 to help improve access in schools.
Sixty Lancashire nursery, primary, secondary and voluntary-aided schools will benefit from the building improvements and extra equipment -- including nine in Preston.
The money, half of which has come from the government and the rest from County Hall and voluntary-aided school budgets, will pay for ramps and disabled toilets, and specialist medical rooms in some schools.
Preston schools to benefit from the scheme are Preston Greenlands, The Roebuck School, Lea Primary School, Goosnargh Whitechapel Primary, Ashton-on-Ribble High, Our Lady's Catholic High, Our Lady's Catholic High, Walton-le-Dale Primary, Worden High School and Lostock Hall High School.
Lancashire's education and cultural services committee chairman County Councillor Hazel Harding: "I am delighted that the government is supporting our commitment to improve educational standards for all children.
"These projects will help remove barriers children with disabilities have experienced, enabling them to achieve their full potential.
"The county council and the government are committed to a policy of social inclusion which seeks to maximise opportunities for every section of the community and this week's announcement demonstrates that we are turning words into action."
