A BOMB explodes on Hammersmith Bridge in London and Jack Straw, as Home Secretary, denounces it and its perpetrators, saying that "in a democratic society, people should accept the will of the majority." Highly laudable.
Meanwhile, in Scotland, a referendum on teaching about homosexuality in schools quite rightly produces an overwhelming vote to keep the existing ban on such activities.
But this time Straw says he is going to ignore "the will of the majority!"
If you have any principles, Mr Straw, stick to them. Otherwise, you are as despicable as the London bombers.
