STUDENTS from Burnley's Towneley High School brightened up a youth shelter in Burnley Wood and were rewarded with a trip to a theme park.

Pupils take part in activities for the last few days of term and this year they got involved with Youth Works Burnley, a project managed by Groundwork East Lancashire.

The project erected a youth shelter last year and students from the school helped to paint it and also clean up the surrounding area.

As a reward, they were taken to Camelot Theme Park, Charnock Richard.

Project manager Beverley Worthington said: "The youth shelter was sited last year but there is still work to be done on it.

"This project will brighten up the structure making it more attractive, but further work will be carried out adding decorative panels to provide additional protection from wind and rain."

Youth Works received the royal seal of approval last year when the Princess Royal visited Burnley Wood.

The youth shelter was developed after reports that young people were hanging around the streets.

The project will be running a full programme of activities for young people in Burnley Wood and Healey Wood throughout the summer holidays. For more information contact Beverley on 01282 431520.
