The accident, which occurred at 2.30pm on Saturday, resulted in three men being taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with head and chest injuries.
The accident happened when a Porsche 944 and a Ford Mondeo collided on Knowle Green Road, near to the Corporation Arms.
Mr Sunderland was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital, while his passenger, Michael Marsh, of Longridge, was taken by road ambulance to the same hospital.
He too remained stable today.
