FORMER Australian Test star Peter Sleep took an incredible eight wickets for just seven runs in a 17 over spell as Barnoldswick were shot out for 91 in the Jennings Ribblesdale League.

Read knocked off the winning runs with just one wicket down with Michael Whalley 49 not out.

Neil Bolton clinched a thrilling two wicket victory for Clitheroe.

The big hitting batsman scored 116 to set the Ribble Valley club up for victory after Whalley had set a total of 219-4 with Graham Knowles scoring 91 and Kevin Reid adding 83. Bolton's century was the highlight of Clitheroe's reply with Simon Coulter and Graham Kershaw seeing them home with two balls to go.

Cherry Tree held on to their place at the top of the table after bowling Baxenden out for 83. But it was not all plain sailing for the Blackburn club who had six wickets down when they secured the win. Padiham are hot on their heels in second place with Pankaj Tripathi continuing his hot form with the bat scoring 88 not out in their nine wicket win. Settle were dismissed for 134 with Michael Herd top scoring on 51 while Padiham pro Ajay Sharma took 6-43.

Ribblesdale share second spot and also secured maximum points. Oswaldtwistle were dismissed for 118 despite Roger Watson's contribution of 62. Wanderers knocked off the winning runs with four wickets down.

Edenfield pulled off the shock of the day by beating Great Harwood with Steve Kirby taking 8-41 as the Cliffe side were shot out for 81 after Edenfield had struggled to 136-8.

Earby professional Jonathan Harvey scored 79 off his side's 142 all out at Blackburn Northern where the home professional had a field day. Ata-ur-Rehman took 7-35 and went on to score 58 with the bat as Northern secured a four wicket win.

Sunday's Ramsbottom Cup semi-finals were abandoned and will be played next Sunday.
