I HAVE long been a critic of Hyndburn Council because of the state of its sport and recreational facilities -- the lack of changing rooms at King George's playing fields in Accrington, the dead grass left after cutting, the long grass on the outfield of the cricket pitches, etc.

It is, therefore, with pleasure that I congratulate Ian McRae and his staff at Wilson's playing fields in Clayton-le-Moors for the excellent state of the cricket field and athletic track.

The outfield was cut short, the cricket square shorter and the individual wickets shorter still.

It was a shame we didn't win, but it was a pleasure to play in such a lovely location, sheltered from the wind and noise by the surrounding mature trees.

The changing rooms were tidy and there were hot showers after the game and it only lacked a bar for us, to have a drink with the opposition.
