A teenager was found dead in his bedroom at a hostel in Preston New Road, Blackburn.
The 19-year-old, who was originally from Durham, was found by a warden at Project 66 just before midnight yesterday.
Inspector Stephen Haworth, of Blackburn police, said there were no signs of violence but they were keeping an open mind on the cause of death.
He said they were awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to be carried out today, and they were considering the possibility of drug abuse.
The teenager's parents, who have not seen him for more than a year, are travelling from Durham today to identify his body.
