ROSSENDALE schoolteacher Gordon McGregor is looking forward to cutting red tape and bureaucracy during his year as president of the Lancashire Federation of the NASUWT.

Mr McGregor, head of maths at All Saints RC High, Rawtenstall and secretary of the Rossendale branch of the NASUWT, has pledged to continue the union's campaign over the next 12 months.

Married with two daughters aged 26 and 24, Mr McGregor takes over as head of the federation, which is made up of the secretaries of NASUWT branches across Lancashire.

He said: "Over the next 12 months I will lead the campaign against the excessive bureaucracy of the profession. There is currently lots and lots of paperwork and we want to help reduce the burden on teachers to get them back into the classroom.

"We don't want one minute of education lost."

An overwhelming 94 per cent of members of the union recently voted in favour of boycotting administerial tasks such as attending an excessive number of meetings, photocopying and collecting lunch money.
