A MORECAMBE estate agent had the windows of his new office smashed as violence erupted in Morecambe over the weekend.

Ian Thomas of Ian R Thomas estate agents had only recently seen work completed at his new office on Pedder Street.

Yet he will now have to replace two eight foot plate glass windows after they were smashed in drunken brawls.

And Ian, a Morecambe resident for 10 years, says he fears trouble in the town will get even worse unless action is taken.

"As the night went on, obviously there was a fight outside our office and a window was broken. It caused quite a mess and it's going to cost me a few bob to get it fixed," he said.

"I've lived in Morecambe for ten years now. This type of thing is going on all the time and it's getting worse every year.

"Something has got to be done about it as soon as possible. I'm not trying to stop anyone having a good time, but this can't be allowed to go on. We're supposed to have an on street drink ban, but obviously that wasn't being properly enforced."

Saturday night also saw Queen Street and Nelson Street closed for a time as visitors, including large groups from Bradford and Liverpool, brought mayhem to the centre.
