IT WAS a brighter performance by Leyland DAF at Lune Road where their four points from a losing draw took them off the bottom of the table.

DAF captain David Makinson put Lancaster in but David Heywood and Danny Hagan knocked up 57 for the first wicket before Hagan was caught by Alan Richardson off Seifton Prince for 25.

Wickets fell at regular intervals and Lancaster's innings closing on 209-9, Heywood top scoring with 85.

David Makinson was the pick of the DAF bowling attack, taking 6-65 from 23 overs.

In reply, DAF openers, James Aspinall and Stuart Catterall gave their team a sound foundation of 43 before Catterall was lbw to Graham Barnes for 22.

Aspinall and Alan Richardson took the score on to 69 before the former was caught by Phil Dennison off Barnes for 32.

DAF began to fall behind the asking rate and Richardson was lbw to Gareth Breese for eight, which left them 78-3.

Only three runs later, Phil Iddon was caught behind by Brendon Hetherington off second change bowler Phil Dennison for one.

DAF professional Stephen John and Ben Henderson stopped the rot by adding 57 for the fifth wicket.

The sixth Leyland DAF wicket fell at 141 when Stephen John was run out for a sound 52 and after Nathan Braithwaite went David Makinson and Alex Totham batted out the closing overs.
