Preston should complete the signing of Toulouse winger Iain Anderson today.
The Scot was on loan at Deepdale at the end of last season and manager David Moyes had been working to secure his services full time since the end of last season.
After missing out on Brett Angell and Dele Adebola, Moyes admitted: "Things are looking very positive with Iain and we hope to tie it up in the next few days."
One figure quoted is £600,000 which would break the club record.
Meanwhile, the Preston boss has confirmed that defender Ryan Kidd will miss the start of the season after surgery on his neck.
