NICK Dougherty is first reserve for Britain and Ireland as they attempt to defend the world amateur team trophy in Berlin in eight weeks' time.
The Shaw Hill ace will be on stand-by as the four-man side -- Beaconfield's Luke Donald, Paul Casey, from Surrey, Welshman Jamie Donaldson and Scot Steven O'Hara -- battle it out on August 31 to September 1.
"I am surprised to be selected. It would have been nice to be in the main side but to be reserve means I am in the top five and it is a privilege to be picked," said Nick.
"It is all building towards the Walker Cup next year and that is the main aim."
Nick continues his build up to the Walker Cup this week when he flies off to Holland to compete for England in the European boys.
"It's been a busy season so far, I've been practising all the time. It's Holland this week and then I will wait and see if I travel to Berlin. I know the course as I played the Amateur Masters there last year."
