THE Blackburn and District CTC racing section enjoyed an outstanding day of success last Saturday in the 25 mile national championship for CTC members on a course near Hull.

Ian Stott of Clayton-le-Moors pedalled his 90 inch fixed gear machine at over 100 rpm to clock a brilliant personal best performance of 55mins 05secs to take bronze medal position overall.

Backed by team mates Carl Helliwell who returned 57mins 04secs and Paul Smith whose 57mins 50secs ride was particularly noteworthy as a pedal came adrift from the axle after 15 miles, and the Blackburn club were convincing winners of the national team award.

In the ladies race Sue Cheetham slashed two minutes off her previous best 25 mile time to clock 1hr 2mins 28secs for second place only 22secs behind London-based lady winner Gill Reynolds.

The same club continued their on-going success on the Kirkby Liverpool outdoor stadium with their member Chris Lee scoring a particularly good win in the A class points race beating Lee Matthews of Liverpool Century into second place with Paul Smith of Blackburn CTC third.

Chris also took a second place in the eight-lap event and Ian Yates was second to Lee Matthews in the Echo Epic 16 lap race. With Ian Stott missing the Wednesday evening racing, Matthews has now overtaken him to lead the season-long points competition, but the Blackburn club are still in pole position in the team race.
