THE appalling death of David Wilkinson (Citizen: 27 July) reflects the immensely high price society unquestioningly pays in granting freedom - above all others - to the motor vehicle. Having cycled past the poignant bunches of flowers placed at the accident scene on several occasions, I feel pessimistic about the true problem being addressed never mind remedied. Everywhere the car is given free rein to move it destroys everything in its path and the piece of road where the accident was has all but been rendered a human-free zone. In the manner of Pontius Pilate - the Government, MPs and councillors refuse to intervene. Who will?
