I WRITE to thank and congratulate you on your July 27 edition giving Marion Friend's letter front page prominence and also your headline that every councillor should read.

It beggars belief that it was necessary in the year 2000. The council leader took two pages attempting to give real reasons but convinced nobody, simply because it is so obvious that the residents should remain where they are.

We know of people who could not gain access to the existing homes and this is what causes under occupancy; people in the winter of their life, who have done more for their town and country, paid more in contributions and saved to pay for their retirement.

Chairman of BPPG,
