NEARLY six years ago I wrote to the Citizen about the uncaring attitude of councils and social workers concerning the care of old people.

My mother's carers were suddenly changed (to save money) and it caused a lot of distress to my mother. Happily, with help, I was able to make them rethink on her behalf but another two patients also affected were not so lucky as they didn't have family to fight for them and within the month they both had died. Not that we can blame it all on the changes but what is certain is that it didn't help.

However, all this upset and distress was caused by the change of carers -- not being thrown out of their homes and being split up from familiar faces. Can we even try to put ourselves in their place and imagine what that would feel like.

It has been suggested that at the next elections we show what we think of our councillors -- but the majority of these people will be dead by then.

If our homes have to be closed because we are in need of money to balance the books due to the over-spending of the council, then they should resign now and not wait to be voted out.
