LANCASHIRE farmers received some much needed good news when one of the country's biggest dairies pledged its future to local suppliers.

Lancashire Dairies, who already buy their products from a number of farms in the Preston area, announced last week that it was sticking to its 'British Milk from British Farms' policy and would continue to source its products from Lancashire and Cheshire farms.

David Girdler, sales and marketing director of the family business, said: "We are flying the flag for local farmers with this policy of 'British Milk from British Farms'.

"By the end of the summer all our produce will proudly state where the milk has come from with our 'British Milk from British Farms' logo emblazoned over all of our packaging.

"We believe that our local produce is about as good as you can get and we are more than happy to shop on our doorstep, as it were."

And chairman of the Fylde Dairy Association, James Rogerson said: "This is fantastic news for local farmers.

"We are delighted to be able to continue working with Lancashire Dairies and are pleased that they have made this commitment tot he high quality produce in this area."
