IN response to the article by Prof Helmut Holzapfel. He is quite right to point out the mistakes of the past and of course we should learn from these, or keep on making the same mistakes time and time again. But I smell a rat. I think the anti-bypass lobby have asked Prof Holzapfel to write this article. Just think about it for a moment, Lancaster already has a bypass, it's called the M6. That hasn't turned turned Lancaster into a ghost town, as he says "He was very impressed with the vibrant city centre." So let's keep it that way. I would rather like to call the proposed bypass a link road, linking Heysham and Morecambe to the motorway network. Not merely bypassing Lancaster. Improved access to Heysham Port will mean more jobs, which in turns leads to greater prosperity. And it's not just lorries that need to be catered for, what about tourists who may be put off visiting Morecambe because of traffic problems. Again increased tourism equals increased revenue for local businesses. Not to mention improved quality of life for those living along the Morecambe road.
