I AM a worried member of the Blackpool public. I have been to meetings regarding these proposed closures and I am concerned at the speed that the social services are acting to throw these elderly people out of their home.

I have heard in the past that social services are experts at all kind of tricks such as convincing the confused residents that they need to move. The idea of this tactic is well known. It is simply to reduce quickly the occupancy of these homes, which I believe have already been reduced by social services policy. Then they can say to the critics, "Well, we have to close the homes now because there's hardly anyone in them."

Social services have over the years lost their credibility. They used to be concerned for the welfare of the community. Well this action they are taking against the helpless elderly proves that the "caring" in their vocation has now gone!
