CUSTOMERS and staff of the St Helens branch of Halifax in Church Square, had to be evacuated following a fire which started amongst some cardboard and stationery in the basement.
The fire was first reported just after 9.30am on Monday, August 14 and no one was injured. Fire services are investigating but have confirmed that arson is suspected. The branch remained closed for the remainder of the day.
