BLACKBURN Rovers new-boy Kaba Diawara believes Graeme Souness can turn him into a star in his own right over the next 10 months.

The former Arsenal hitman trained with his new Rovers team-mates for the first time yesterday after agreeing a one-year loan from Paris St Germain.

And, after spending the last couple of seasons in the shadows of Nicolas Anelka, he now wants to take centre stage himself.

"When I was a little boy I watched Liverpool games and I saw the boss playing," said Diawara.

"He was a great player and I expect him to be a great coach for us and bring out the best in me. "I had to leave PSG because I have to play. It is unusual that Nicolas has twice been at clubs with me but he is not my problem. If he comes to my club and plays in front of me I have to take care of myself. I must play and that is why I have come to Blackburn - to play."

Rovers fans are likely to get their first glimpse of Diawara in Saturday's clash with Norwich at Ewood.

And if the move works out, the former French Under 21 international striker would like to extend his stay at the club.

"I like the challenge to come here and it's a chance for me because I think Blackburn are a big club and I have the opportunity to show my skills," said Diawara.

"If I play well and the club go up in the Premier League I hope they buy me and I stay here."

Diawara saw his new team-mates in action at Spotland on Tuesday night.

And, though Rovers could only draw 1-1 with lowly Rochdale, he is convinced he has made the right decision in moving to Ewood.

"I think we played a good match but it was a tough game against a smaller team and that's why we drew but I hope we win the second leg."
