AS a resident of the Mill Hill and Ewood area of Blackburn for most of my adult life, I have grown accustomed to seeing the quality of the road surfaces, pavements and grassed areas deteriorate into a state of embarrassment.

Now, the council is offering -- nay, demanding -- that I can pay £10 for my car and £35 for my son's to have the privilege of driving over the pothole-riddled streets that lead to and from my estate.

They couldn't get me for parking on the street, so they have found another way.

Not happy with us having valid road tax that doesn't go to the roads, or paying exorbitant council tax for which we see very little benefit, or the revenue from over-priced fuel, they have found another money-making racket at the expense of the electorate.

Maybe in the current climate, this is another example of where the public should make a stand against the injustices foisted upon us by tin pot politicians -- by a blanket refusal to pay.
