SEVENTIES fever has grabbed the Blackpool summer show scene in the form of Abbadabbado. It is a sort of musical-cum-variety show compered by The Wave's own cheesy DJ, Lionel Vinyl.

And Blackpool's favourite icon of bad taste -- complete with glitter, flares, white socks and, of course, his afro -- is at the helm of Radio Cool Vibe, a pirate station broadcasting to a live audience and his listeners.

The show is a long performance of a variety of Seventies glam rock, disco and ballads by Rebecca Storm, Blackpool-based Tracey Jordan, Liz King, former Butlin's Redcoat Scott Jay Marks and Lionel Ritchie look-alike Hamilton Browne. Renditions of songs like Can You Feel The Force?, Rockin' All Over The World, I Will Survive and Endless Love are ably belted out. Versatile comedian and former Three of A Kind star David Copperfield adds a welcome variation with his ventriloquism and impressions of Tommy Cooper and Cliff Richard, and even plays Classical Gas on his acoustic.

The Bop Company and children from local dance schools -- Lionel's Little Angels -- made up the large cast of dancers with routines choreographed by Dollie Henry.

A finale of Eurovision, an Abba medley and Village People's YMCA finally got the audience on their feet.

Seventies fans will enjoy the show just for the feel-good factor alone, but with seemingly no plot it lacks direction and at times felt like a huge karaoke session.

Abbadabbado is at the Blackpool Opera House from Monday to Saturday until October 28. Tickets are priced from £10.50 for adults and £5 for children and senior citizens. Family tickets (two adults and two children) cost £30. To book telephone Blackpool Live on (01253) 292029.
