LOVE blossomed between colleagues working at Blackburn's public halls over half a century ago.

And today the couple are still in love and celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

Harry and Anne Blackledge, both 87, of Stonyhurst Road, Blackburn, first met when they worked together at the halls on Northgate -- what is now King George's Hall. They married at St Peter's Church in Byrom Street and have spent their married life living in Blackburn.

Mr Blackledge eventually became hall steward at the Northgate rooms and Mrs Blackledge spent over 20 years as a cook at St Peter's School, Byrom Street. Now the couple are content with each other's company and enjoy going on holidays.

And the secret of a long and happy marriage? Mr Blackledge said: "It's all about pulling together. We don't quarrel much."

Mr and Mrs Blackledge will be celebrating their special day with a get-together with friends.

A BLIND date led to love at first sight for golden couple Joseph and Carrie Woodhouse -- and today they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr and Mrs Woodhouse, of Bowman Court, Trinity Street, Blackburn, were "set up" by Mrs Woodhouse's sister.

Mr Woodhouse, 75, said: "I had just come out of the navy and Maud organised a date for us. We went to the pictures but neither of us can remember which film we saw." The couple were married at St Michael's Church, Blackburn.

Mr Woodhouse worked for Prestige at Skew Bridge for over 40 years and Mrs Woodhouse, 73, worked at Philips for just under 20 years.

The couple have a son, Thomas, a daughter-in-law, Carol, and a granddaughter, Emma, who will be travelling from their Chester home to celebrate with a family meal.

Friends and residents from the sheltered accommodation where the Woodhouses live will then be joining in the fun.

And the secret of 50 years of happy marriage?

Mr Woodhouse said: "Everyone says it I know but it really is all about give and take."
